Yin Yoga is a practice that focuses on the connective tissues and facia. The health of these “yin” tissues is improved through the gentle yin approach of passive stress without engaging the muscles. Each pose is held for several minutes to allow the muscles to relax. Yin practice is also a type of “insight” practice where a calm exploration of the sensations that arise from each pose or movement is encouraged. Participants are encouraged to have one or two blocks, a bolster or cushions, and blankets to provide the right level of support for the various poses within a practice.
